Event & Ride Info

The 7th Annual Ride for Breast Cancer Awareness Was September 24th, 2011

On Saturday, September 24, we woke up to a cool, crisp Fall day.  My ride to Elk River required a coffee ‘detour’ to stay warm.  Before I even finished my first cup, the sun was peeking out and I knew then it was going to be a great day!  We found ourselves busy setting up for the ride. Tables, chairs, and tents were being moved fast and furiously.  Around 10 am, the parking lot at Zylstra’s was filling up.  The smell of a great hog roast was permeating throughout the parking lot.  Tickets were being sold for both the basket raffle and the bike raffle.  Pink was the color for the day (pink bandanas, pink boas, pink beads, pink bras, pink T-shirts).

At noon, over 400 bikes (that’s 3 miles of bikes!) left Zylstra’s parking lot and headed towards Captains on Long Lake.  What a beautiful ride through the countryside.  From Captains we took a scenic ride to  Jack & Jim’s in Foley.  Wow, the trees and foliage was absolutely beautiful!  Our last destination was Rockwoods in Otsego.  That’s where the ride took a couple of different routes.  The scheduled route and the highway 10 route that someone started because nature was calling and they needed a “quick” route.  Like all good riders, many of us followed.  However, the story has a happy ending:  we all made it to Rockwoods and enjoyed a delicious pasta buffet.  At 6 pm we were entertained by our auctioneers at the Live Auction where very nice, donated items, were auctioned off, including many handmade pieces!  At 7 pm the winning bike raffle ticket was pulled and Rebecca Schubert received the call that she had won the 2011 Street Bob.  Congratulations to Rebecca.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this day a memorable one.

Next year’s ride will be on Saturday, September 22, 2012.  Please join us for another great day of riding and raising money for breast cancer patients!

The 6th Annual Ride for Breast Cancer Awareness Was September 25th, 2010

In the morning hours of Saturday, Sept., 25, 2010, cloudy skies lurked over our heads (and a drop or two fell) but we continued with set-up and registration and were delighted with the number of bikers that came out for our Sixth Annual Lynnda Laubach Breast Cancer Awareness Ride.  The weather got nicer as the day progressed and everyone had fun!

During the 100 mile ride, stops were made at Captain’s on Long Lake in Isanti and at Jack & Jim’s in Foley. The final destination was Friendly Buffalo in Big Lake where everyone enjoyed a good meal and entertainment. This year we had a live auction with real auctioneers! (BTW – the auctioneers donated their time. Thanks so much – you did a super job.)   It was fun to see the great items donated by businesses and even more fun to watch the bidding wars amongst family and friends.

Like every year, the highlight is to see who wins the bike. Last minute raffle tickets were purchased and at 7 pm, the pink ticket tumbler was spun and a winning ticket was drawn. Congrats to Sam Yangsao!

Thanks to EVERYONE who participated in the ride and who volunteered in helping surpass our goal.

Be sure to save the date for next year: Sept. 24, 2011.   Pre-registration will be available early next year.
